Malaysia’s Journey to the Ice: Women in Antarctica

Through the ‘Malaysia’s Journey to the Ice: Women in Antarctica’ programme, Malaysian women polar researchers are afforded the opportunity to share their personal experiences and research endeavours with secondary school students. Through a series of interactive motivational talks, they have highlighted the challenges they faced while participating in Antarctic research expeditions. Thus far, the programme has been held in 19 secondary schools throughout Malaysia, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from both students and teachers alike. The net result of this initiative has been its ability to ignite interest in STEM related subjects amongst students as evidenced by their expressions of interest in pursuing their studies in STEM related disciplines with some even evincing an interest in becoming a polar researcher.
