ASEAN Sea Level Rise Workshop


The ASEAN Sea Level Rise Workshop was organised by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), in collaboration with Yayasan Penyelidikan Antartika Sultan Mizan (YPASM), the Ministry of Energy, Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) through National Water Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and the National Antarctic Research Centre (NARC). The workshop was supported by GIZ under the ASEAN EU-German Climate Action Programme and ASEAN Secretariat.

The 2 days workshop brought together 100 participants, including policymakers, scientists and climate practitioners from across ASEAN member states. Themed “ASEAN’s Response to Rising Seas: A New Chapter in Climate Adaptation”, the workshop will provide an overview of the scientific mechanisms contributing to sea level rise, deepen understanding on the challenges posed by rising seas and lay the groundwork for future research and policy initiatives among ASEAN members.  

 

Objectives Of The Workshop And Further Discussions

This initial workshop aims to equip ASEAN policymakers and stakeholders with foundational knowledge on sea level rise, setting the stage for future action frameworks.

  3. Facilitate Regional Collaboration on SLR Research and Data-Sharing Initiatives
  4. Position Sea Level Rise as a Priority within ASEAN’s Climate Resilience Agenda
