Education Expedition to the Arctic Region, 5 July – 20 July 2020

Students on Ice (SOI) is a global award winner in educational programs. Since 1999, SOI has brought more than 2500 students, scientists, educators, the general public, artists, musicians and leaders from 52 countries around the world to participate in educational expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Through this Students on Ice: Arctic Educational Expedition program, Form 4 students and teachers from the state of Terengganu had the opportunity to represent the country in the educational expedition to the Arctic region. This program is an international program that has been conducted by YPASM since 2015 in collaboration with Students On Ice Foundation based in Canada. The selected 2 students and 1 teacher will join more than 100 international students and staff from various countries on this 15-day Arctic cruise expedition. The staff will be represented by scientists, painters, musicians, historians, the local Arctic or Antarctic community and members from various fields. From the selection process until the expedition, students and teachers will be exposed to information on the relationship between the Polar and tropical regions which will include elements of students’ basic understanding of sustainable resource use, understanding and predicting changes in the earth’s ecosystem as well as finding solutions to impact economic and society through innovative projects or green technology-themed communities. Selected students and teachers will have the opportunity to witness for themselves the effects of climate change on the melting of ice and the impact on the flora, fauna, economy, politics and social life of the Polar region. The program as a whole will be able to touch and enhance the understanding of participants involved in various global and local issues through a single program. Among the issues involved:

  • Climate change;
  • Pollution ;
  • Sustainable Use of Resources;
  • Recycling and Green Technology;
  • Earth Ecosystem Changes;
